Microsoft Delays Vista
Microsoft's
long awaited XP replacement operating system, previously code name Longhorn, now
known as Vista has been delayed further. XP is now five years old, this will be
the longest period between operating system releases from Microsoft.
It was intended that the release would be in time for the 2006 Christmas
rush. It has been announced that commercial versions may be available for then
but the domestic versions will not be available until early 2007.
It
is believed the reasons for the continued delay is to do with security. Microsoft
appear to be taking their time in the hope that there new system is robust enough
not to suffer the fate of previous systems.
Beta versions have been available
for some time, to a mixed reception. One of the criticisms made about beta versions
of Vista is it's thirst for RAM and processing power, sparking off a whole new
need for faster bigger and better machines.
There will be six versions
available designed to match the demands different types of users.
Not
only does Vista have a new appearance, but how it handles networking and sound
has changed. Core to Vista is Microsoft Search, the ability to search not only
by the name of the document but also within most document types.
