Boom in shopping traffic from
Google New
statistics have revealed a huge rise in the amount of traffic that is going to
e-commerce sites from Google. The report by Hitwise US has found the
number of visits to shopping and classifieds sites received from the search engine
has almost doubled in a year. In May 2006 the figure was 8.7% but the corresponding
month this year saw the figure leap to 15.55%. This figure is all the more
remarkable as the overall industry figure has only increased by 0.7% - with the
amount of traffic shopping e-commerce sites coming from search engines is now
24.95%. According to Hitwise's LeaAnn Prescott, the discrepancy shows Google
is continuing to forge a commanding lead in the search engine sector. She
said that Google enjoys almost 80% market share in the UK and its traffic, share
of search and impact on e-commerce websites have grown over the past year. While
the Google figures are remarkable, Prescott thinks the growth of MySpace is a
truly significant source of customer leads for shopping sites - which now receive
3.15% of visits from the social networking site. This is up 86.1% in the last
year. M.P Comment: |
