Google's
PR Updates- outdated? Until June 04 Google had very clear
and regular updates. Every month there would be a shift in PR (PageRank), a shift
in BackLinks counted and a revision to the SERPs (search engine results pages).
After June last year Google started a new regime, of updating the PR less frequently,
Backlink status still changes approximately every month but the SERPs updates
aren't necessarily tied to either.

BackLinks
recalled
At SES in New York earlier this year Matt Cutts, of Google, agreed that BackLinks
are not what they appear. Firstly they are not in any order of preference, secondly
they only display a "proportion" of the number of incoming links a page/site
has. When quizzed further he remarked that the only people that use BackLinks
are these that are trying to gain position in the search engine, therefore indicating
that not giving all the information makes it more difficult for them.
So perhaps now that PR updates are a month out of date by the time they appear,
maybe this indicates Google's policy has widened to providing more misinformation
for those trying to optimise web sites.
