The Power of DMOZ.

When submitting to DMOZ, great care must be taken to how the description is used. The fact is that the DMOZ description in Googles search engine listings can "overwrite" those in the code on the page.

This can be demonstrated to extraordinary effect by considering a recent legal case against David Irving.

David Irving has a website at www.fpp.co.uk. Where he sells books, videos etc the title for which is "Welcome to the World of Real History". Mr Irving is currently in prison in Austria, convicted for writing a book in 1989 denying the existence of the Holocaust.

If you search for David Irving in Google despite having a title in the site code, what is actually displayed is significantly different.Image showing a screen grab of how the site appears in Goolge
Nowhere on the website does it use the above title or description. It has come from the entry in DMOZ. The moral to the story, how you are described in DMOZ is critical, get the description wrong and it could influence how you appear in the search engine for years to come. Even worse is that your site gets entered by someone with an "axe to grind".
