Google The parenting information website started legal action in March 2006 alleging that Google had defamed it by cutting it from its search ranking system. It accused Google of violations of antitrust, free speech, unfair competition and defamation. The owners of the company argued its website's sudden demotion in March 2005 had severely harmed its business. KinderStart had sought class action status on behalf of what it said were many other sites which had suffered the same fate by Google. However, a judge ruled that KinderStart failed to explain how Google caused injury by a provably false statement, as distinguished from an unfavorable opinion about the website's importance. Google is relieved that legal proceedings are over and in a company statement it said it always felt the claims were unjustified, because courts have consistently rejected complaints over search engine rankings. Commenting on the ruling, Matt Cutts, said that Google indexes tens of millions of websites and it would be incredibly ridiculous for a company to call a law suit against the search engine under the assumption that the website is being purposely ranked low and it was Google's malicious intent to do so. He added that it sets
an interesting premise for any other company who wishes to do the same. M.P The owners of all Trade Marks are respectfully acknowledged
