How to get listed in Google, forget submitting.

We are approached from time to time by people that are paying money to organisations who submit their sites to Google every month. Now it might not be a lot of money £60 to £100 appears to be the norm. We have known people submit their sites to Google for years with no effect.

But take it from me, inclusion into Google does not come from submitting your site. The fastest, and most successful way to get into Google is to get a link from a web site that is already crawled by Googles web spiders.

To be fair we haven't submitted to Google in about 6 years, we have top positions in Google for some extremely competitive search terms, with sites that were once not even cached and none have been submitted ever. The only way into Google is to get an inbound link from a site that is already crawled by Google.

Here are a few of the directories you should consider approaching, they are all crawled by Google.

Skatoo
Yahoo

But then lies the problem, getting in to Google is easy, getting ranked in a high position for a search term that is used by searchers is the difficult bit, and that is where search engine optimisation comes in.
