Ask revamps its search engine

Search engine Ask.com has launched what it describes as a 3D revamp of its website. The Ask3D makeover is designed to deliver results from a range of media types, as well as offering a new method of navigation.

The revamp follows hot on the heels of Google's Universal Search which displays a variety of media types in its search.

But, unlike Google, Ask3D segregates results in to three different columns of content type, so image and video results are all shown together rather than mixed in with other results.

The left hand column displays Ask3D's zoom search, which suggests related queries to help users refine their searches.

The middle column shows the search results and has a binoculars feature which previews the web page. It gives users a variety of information including details on load time and whether the website has pop-ups or is Flash-based.

The right hand column displays video, images, music, recent related news and other media types.
